How it's calculated: The primary result uses the U.S. Navy circumference method (Hodgdon & Beckett, 1984) from neck, waist (+hip for women), and height. The BMI method (Deurenberg, 1991) is shown for comparison only and uses just height, weight, age, and sex. Both are estimates — accuracy versus DEXA is typically ±3–4 percentage points. Categories follow the American Council on Exercise (ACE) classification. For adults only; not validated for use with children.
Reference

Classification and age context.

The result combines the Navy estimate with ACE body-fat categories and the Jackson–Pollock / Pollock–Wilmore age-reference table.
